A song about the importance of the consistency in being present for someone while they struggle and how powerful reminders from that person can be when it comes to encouragement to keep working. I wrote this song for my incredible wife- who (often literally) carried me through the most difficult days I've ever had.
Lyrics
It's an overlooked gift- like some faded sweater.
Just what you needed though, in this imperfect weather.
You know, I've seen your lungs, gasping for air.
And I've held your hand every time you were scared.
In some hospital hallway- under fluorescent lighting.
Or major intersection, with dissolving bike lanes.
Taillights in the dark, rain on the windshield.
A fluttering heart- or this pain when it won't heal.
It's a paradigm shift, made for the better.
A common desire, in the imperfect weather.
And I've seen your heart- enlarged on the screen.
And I've held my breath, watching you scream.
In some sleep paralysis- from a god awful dream.
I've lifted you out, and said you're still with me-
We can lay right here- we don't have to fall asleep,
Don't just count the things you're losing. Count the one's you keep.
And I know you've found help in places you never knew you could.
And you hide from those old faces that only used to do you good.
You buy time with your good graces- more often than you should-
And I can tell you're trying to erase this- but it's carved into the wood....
And it's easy to miss- like finding a feather.
In the howling wind of this, imperfect weather.
But you know I've known all your mistakes, bandaged your wounds-
Mended your breaks. I'm just so good at you.
So don't push this away. It's not as bad as it seems.
We can deal with this weather. Whatever it brings.
Please don't push it away. It's not as bad as it seems.
We'll deal with this weather- whatever it brings...
Whatever it brings.
